Akituusaq, a two-year-old Pacific walrus at the New York Aquarium, died Tuesday of complications due to pneumonia. Akituusaq was only the 10th walrus born in captivity in North America since 1968, and the first one ever born at the Aquarium. His name means “gift given in return” in the Yupik language.
